Our readers have nominated the top 10 takeaways in Cirencester, Tetbury, Malmesbury and the surrounding areas, and for the next week we’ll be profiling each of them so you can choose the Wilts and Gloucestershire Standard Best Takeaway 2021.

The fifth venue we’re showcasing is Pit and Plate, a pop-up takeaway serving Argentinian-inspired delicacies around the Cotswolds.

Since Benjamin Thompson opened the business six months ago, he’s been setting up shop in places like Waterside Café and Castle Street, but he’s looking for a permanent base in Gloucestershire within the next six months.

He said that the pandemic has been really tough, but he’s determined to offer the area “affordable and approachable food with a chef’s flare behind it.”

His meals are influenced by Argentinian chef Francis Mallmann and include Harissa roasted cauliflower and fennel and chipotle pork.

Asked how he felt after being nominated, Benjamin said: “It’s fantastic, seeing as I set the product up only six months ago it’s just gone from strength to strength, and to be put in the top 10 in the area is really fantastic."

He said it was great that people have responded so well to his healthy alternatives to fried-based takeaways.

Benjamin also wanted to thank Relish Catering for helping him with pop-up locations and giving him a step up to showcase his products.

If you think Pit and Plate should be crowned the best takeaway in the Cotswolds and North Wiltshire, you can vote for them using the voting coupon in this week’s paper (Thursday, April 8) or next week's (Thursday, April 15).
