Our readers have nominated the top 10 takeaways in Cirencester, Tetbury, Malmesbury and the surrounding areas, and for the next week we’ll be profiling each of them so you can choose the Wilts and Gloucestershire Standard Best Takeaway 2021.

The second venue we’re showcasing is Igloo Restaurant, a family run business which has been serving the Cirencester community locally-sourced meals since 2018.

Owner Oliver Matchett and his team had started developing a delivery and takeaway service before the pandemic, but were forced to bring those plans forward to continue trading during lockdown.

“Without takeaways I don’t think we’d be here if I’m honest,” said Oliver.

“It’s worked for us. I can’t say we’ve thrived over the past year but we’ve definitely survived.”

Oliver said he’s looking forward to reopening the inside of the restaurant when lockdown restrictions eventually ease enough, but he will keep doing delivery and takeaway.

“It’s an honour in itself to be nominated at all so to make it through to the top ten is even better.

"The support we’ve had from the locals has just been fantastic so I would put it down to them rather than us.”

Asked how he would feel if Igloo won the competition, Oliver said: “It would be a great honor for us, from chefs to delivery people to the people taking the phone calls, it would be great."

He said that being a new business in the area, Covid-19 was very difficult but their customers got them through it.

“A big thank you for all the support not just now but over the past year and moving forward.”

If you think Igloo Restaurant should be crowned the best takeaway in the Cotswolds and North Wiltshire, you can vote for them using the voting coupon in this week’s paper (Thursday, April 8).
