Our readers have nominated the top 10 takeaways in Cirencester, Tetbury, Malmesbury and the surrounding areas, and for the next two weeks we’ll be profiling each of them so you can choose the Wilts and Gloucestershire Standard Best Takeaway 2021.

The first restaurant we’re showcasing is The Priory Inn, Tetbury: a restaurant, pizza-place and fish and chip shop all rolled into one.

Neil McDonald took over the business just 20 days before the first lockdown but he faced the challenge head on, making 15,000 deliveries in the first two months.

“It was a big challenge because we took over around 50 staff and we had to diversify and that’s what we did.

“We’ve got a few strings to our bow, we’re not just a standard takeaway outfit.”

Since then the Priory has been selling £20,000-worth of takeaways and deliveries a week, made from ingredients supplied by independent growers within a 30 mile radius.

“I’m thrilled. People really support us and I’m just overwhelmed. To get that support is fantastic,” said Neil after finding out he had made the top 10.

“If I win I’d be so pleased because it’s all about our staff. They make it happen on a day-to-day business, so I’d be thrilled that they would be recognized and it would mean so much to them.”

He said he wanted to thank his customers for all their support.

“It’s been such an emotional rollercoaster over the last year, so thank you.”

If you think The Priory Inn should be crowned the best takeaway in the Cotswolds and North Wiltshire, you can vote for them using the voting coupon in this week’s paper (Thursday, April 8).

Once you've got your coupon, simply post it to: Wilts & Glos Standard Best Takeaway, Redhill House, 227 London Road, Worcester, WR5 2JG.
