FAIRFORD based championship dog breeder Sue Jackson returned from Crufts in 1991 pleased with her success.

At the most prestigious dog show in the country, held at the NEC in Birmingham, Mrs Jackson exhibited seven dogs in all and received prizes for every one.

She described the event as having an “enormous showing” again and found herself extremely busy with her own exhibits and although none of them actually gained a first, all performed well enough to take place positions.

Mrs Jackson specialised in the rare red and white setter breed with one of her dogs top of its class in the country, a title awarded as the running tally of points from the year’s shows were combined.

Also at the show, the judges were able to see the efforts of Mrs Jackson’s 13-year-old daughter Emma for the first time as she qualified with her own dog, an achievement in its own right as to qualify for Crufts each entrant must first attain champion of show at one of the other exhibitions around the country.

Back in Fairford, the preparations were underway for the next local show, scheduled for the following March.

But the local breeder was to be in the limelight before then as an advertisement for a well-known dog food in which she and her dogs appear was set to air on televisions screens nationwide.
