MIKE Stuart’s father, Harry, sent these two postcards home from Normandy in 1944. The first is a Christmas card, while the second was sent some time just after the D-Day Landings in Normandy in June 1944.

The Christmas card was sent around the time of the German offensive in Ardennes, known as the Battle of Bulge, in which Mike’s father was involved.

Harry was one of the first soldiers in the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers Corps (REME) and was tasked with retrieving knocked out tanks and other equipment from the front line to take back to base for repair.

On the second card was written “Just like Home Sweet Home. Tut Tut. Tons of love Bruno”. Bruno was Mike’s mother’s pet name for his father
