Holders Manchester City will battle 14-time champions Arsenal for a place in the 2020 Vitality Women’s FA Cup Final, following their slender 2-1 victory over Championship side Leicester City.

The Barclays FA WSL giants were frustrated by their hosts - the only second-tier team left in the competition’s quarter finals - for over half-an-hour, until a controversial penalty decision went in their favour and Chloe Kelly tucked away from the spot.

Georgia Stanway doubled the visitors’ advantage four minutes before the break with a sumptuous lob from Ellen White’s flick-on to seemingly put Gareth Taylor’s charges in control.

But the Foxes refused to lie down and were duly rewarded for their perseverance with just over ten minutes left on the clock when Millie Farrow was felled in the penalty area and they were handed their own opportunity from 12 yards.

Charlie Devlin coolly converted to set up a tense finish, but two-time FA Cup champions City showcased their experience by seeing the game out, keeping their hunt for back-to-back successes a reality.

Arsenal were the first side to book their semi-final spot after seeing off north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur by 4-0 on Saturday evening, who named marquee signing Alex Morgan among their substitutes.

While the American star didn’t make it off the bench, Spurs proved a tough nut to crack for Joe Montemurro’s Gunners until the 73rd minute, when Jordan Nobbs expertly chipped Rebecca Spencer to break the deadlock.

That goal somewhat opened the floodgates at Meadow Park, and Scotland international Lisa Evans notched a late, 16-minute hat-trick to add gloss to the scoreline and ensure her side’s progression.

Elsewhere, Everton stunned WSL champions Chelsea by coming from behind to reach the semi-finals with a 2-1 win at Goodison Park.

Emma Hayes’ visitors - who scored ten goals in their first two WSL fixtures - seemed destined for victory when Erin Cuthbert’s strike put them in charge with five minutes gone.

But after being under pressure for the majority of the opening 45 minutes, the Toffees responded six minutes ahead of the interval through skipper Lucy Graham, who expertly headed in Ingrid Moe-Wold’s cross.

And French striker Valerie Gauvin got the decisive second goal shortly after the hour mark, the 24-year-old helping herself to a header of her own to end Chelsea’s hopes of lifting the FA Cup for the second time in three years.

Standing in Everton’s way of a place in the showpiece finale are Birmingham City, who needed penalties to overcome Brighton after it finished 2-2 at the end of normal time on the South Coast.

The Blues led twice in the game thanks to Sarah Mayling’s early opener and a Mollie Green penalty, but were pegged back on both occasions by a Danielle Bowman spot-kick and Denise O'Sullivan’s last-gasp equaliser.

After extra-time, Brighton's Kayleigh Green and Birmingham's Claudia Walker both missed early in the shootout before Hannah Hampton saved from Megan Connolly, allowing Georgia Brougham to seal a 4-2 shootout win and put the 2012 champions into the next round.
