IT proved to be a frustrating Easter weekend for Cirencester Town as their winless run stretched to three games in the Southern League Division One Central.

The Centurions are now ten points off a play-off place having taken just a single point from their two games; losing 1-0 at Hertford Town and being held to a 1-1 draw with Highworth Town.

Saturday's trip to Hertford presented a chance for Cirencester to get back to winning ways following their late defeat at Didcot Town the week before. Hertford sat dangerously close to the relegation zone prior to kick-off but started the brighter of the two teams.

And they took the lead in the sixth minute when Isaac Pedro finished off a flowing counter-attack after soaking up the early pressure.

Cirencester were the better team for the majority of the first-half and created chances but they were unable to make the breakthrough and headed into the sheds 1-0 down.

The visitors continued to dominate the ball but Hertford sat back and absorbed the pressure whilst looking to hit on the counter-attack.

But despite the best efforts of the Cirencester players, they just could not get the goal they deserved and fell short.

It made Monday's clash with local rivals Highworth Town all the more important but the conditions made for a difficult watch as the swirling wind across the country eradicated the ability to play decent football.

Having said that, Cirencester did find what they thought was a late winner when Aidan Bennett reacted quickest to tap home following Joe Shepherd's header coming back off the post.

But with three minutes left, the visitors struck to snatch a point and all but end Cirencester's play-off hopes.
