Cirencester Town 2 - 1 Corsham Town
UHLSPORT Hellenic League - Premier Division table toppers Corsham Town were the visitors to The Talent Hire Stadium for this second qualifying round fixture of The FA Vase on Saturday, September 12.
And, following an entertaining, hard-fought match, it is The Centurions that will go into the draw for the first round of the competition.
The visitors took the game to their hosts in the opening minutes with a number of attacks down their flanks but it wasn’t long before Cirencester replied with neat football to test the visitors’ defence – resulting in a number of near misses.
As a result of this pressure the visitors had to rely on occasional counter attacks or free kicks to threaten their hosts.
Five minutes into the second half Cirencester opened the scoring when Adam Corcoran headed a ‘punched’ clearance back over the defence into the vacant net.
When Corsham responded they found the home defence in determined mood with Connor Johns producing a fine save to deny them.
Thirty minutes into the second half a period of sustained pressure from the hosts resulted in an attempted clearance falling to Charlie McCrae and he immediately drove it into the net.
As the game was drawing to a close Corsham mounted an attack down their right flank to supply Kye Simpson who fired his shot under the covering defence and past an unsighted Johns.
The final few minutes were tense as Corsham sought an equaliser but Cirencester survived to go into the next round of the competition.
