Cotswold racing ace Zak O’Sullivan is set to compete at the British Grand Prix event at Silverstone this weekend.

The 17-year-old is competing in the FIA Formula 3 Championship with British team Carlin Racing.

His two races will take place on Saturday and Sunday ahead of the Formula 1 sessions.

Back in February, the Withington teen was announced as the newest member of the prestigious Williams Racing Driver Academy following an incredible 2021 season in the GB3 Championship.

Last year he dominated all opposition to win the series with a 164 point-lead.

Three days later, Zak attended the Autosport Awards on his 17th birthday, where he won the renowned Young Driver of the Year Award.

The accolade has previously been given to F1 drivers Lando Norris and George Russell, as well as motorsport greats such as Jenson Button and David Coulthard.

As a prize for this achievement, Zak won the opportunity to drive an F1 car later in the year.

This season in FIA Formula 3 Zak has demonstrated his impressive skill, out-qualifying many older, more experienced drivers in more competitive cars.

He was particularly strong at the first race of the season in Bahrain and also in the wet weather conditions at Imola.

At his home race, the British Grand Prix, the Carlin driver hopes to better his previous results and put on a strong performance for the thousands of fans attending the popular event.

He said: “It is very cliché for a British driver, but Silverstone is one of the races I have been looking forward to most this season.

"I love the track with its high-speed sectors, and I cannot wait to experience racing in front of the passionate UK fans.

"I hope I give them some results to cheer about!”
