The success keeps coming for champion compound archer, Ella Gibson of Cirencester, as she has now won the compound individual Gold at the first of four stages of the 2022 Hyundai Archery World Cup in Antalya, Turkey, writes Chris Roberts

Twenty-one year old, Ella has become the first British archer in 10 years to reach a World Cup stage final and the first in 12 years to win individual Gold when she defeated the 2013 World Cup Final Champion over the Easter weekend by two points. This win also represents Ella’s first ever World Cup stage victory.

Ella’s podium-topping performance now ensures her direct qualification through to the World Cup Final in October in Tlaxcala, Mexico.

“It’s amazing, I still can’t really believe it if I’m honest,” said an elated Ella.

“I didn’t expect to get straight through to the World Cup Final after just one stage, but obviously I’m thrilled that it’s turned out this way.”

This is the latest achievement for Ella, holds four of the nine continental records available for compound women in outdoor archery. She is ranked number one in Great Britain and has now moved up to fourth in the world.

Ella, who travels from Cirencester to the National Centre in Lilleshall, Shropshire to train for five hours every week, said: “I’d like to thank Jon Nott, who has been my coach since 2018 as well as Simon Scott, my line coach, and all those at Lilleshall, who have helped me on this incredibly successful journey.”

Ella lives in Cirencester with her father, Rob Gibson, owner of Dolcetti Ice Cream Limited and mother, Janice, a senior co-ordinator with the charity Home-Start Cotswolds.

Rising star, Ella is now looking forward to being one of only five competitors for team GB representing her country at the World Games (equivalent to the Olympics) Archery Championship taking place in July 2022 in Alabama, USA.
