Golfers greeted the easing of England’s coronavirus restrictions by hitting the fairways early this morning.

Cirencester Golf Club member Jack took one for the team and struck the first opening tee shot since the start of January when tougher restrictions were brought in across the country.

230 members were officially booked to play on day one at the golf club and even the overspill car park was full by mid morning.

General manager Leighton Walker said: "It's been a very good day.

"We've got some great weather today, everyone is in a buoyant mood and all members are respecting guidelines."

Golf is among the outdoor activities which can now take place in England, with courses allowed to reopen along with football and cricket pitches, tennis and basketball courts, and outdoor swimming pools.
