Southern League 2020/21 Division 1 South

Frome Town 1 Cirencester Town 2

The Centurions returned to league action with a trip to Frome and after a hard-fought battle managed to return with the three points, writes Dave Pyzer.

Playing into the wind and rain it was difficult to make progress at times but the visitors struck first when Jordan Morris rode a couple of tackles to release Levi Irving to the left corner where he delivered a pinpoint cross to the edge of the six-yard box for Aidan Bennett to powerfully head into the net.

At the mid-point of the half Kane Simpson chased a ball down the left channel to supply Robert Hobbs and he drove it into the net from the edge of the box to equalise for Frome.

By now the action was fairly frantic with neither side able to retain the ball for long but as the interval loomed the home side were awarded a penalty that ‘keeper Alex Harris parried and it remained all square going to the break.

The second half continued in the ‘end-to-end’ fashion but it was Cirencester that made the break-through as Joe Shepherd charged down the left flank before delivering a low cross into the home box that was cleared to a lurking Jonny Dennis who drove it inside the left post.

With nothing to lose the home side increased the pressure with their neat approach play but a stubborn Centurion rear-guard refused to be breached enabling the visitors to return with the spoils.
