A BLISTERING one-under par round of 70 from Craig Sutherland laid the foundations for his team’s success in the Cirencester Golf Club charity day.

A splendid competition helped raise £3,568 through the generosity of members and those who donated raffle prizes.

This will be passed on to Macmillan Cancer and the Sue Ryder Hospice.

Six-handicapper Sutherland amassed an individual total of 43 points, including three birdies, and he was ably assisted by Steve Tickle and David Michael through a format in which the trio’s best score was to count on holes 1-6, two to score on holes 7-12, and all three to count on 13-18.

Steve came in with seven pars while David, a 20-handicapper, holed two valuable putts in excess of 25 feet.

In second place, on 80 points came Sam Mepham, Nathan Richens and Jack Ellis, who got off to a great start with each of them supplying birdies on the first six holes.

In third, on countback, were Martin Righton, Stewart Osborn and Gary Clifford, with Gary going on to win the putting competition.
