MALMESBURY’S Louis Harvey kept his grip on the Shenington Kart Club Championship with another great weekend of racing.

Shenington Kart Club held round six of their 2020 championship with Louis aiming to remain in control of the championship.

After a packed morning followed by three heats and a final, Harvey crossed the line 3rd and stays top with just four rounds to go.

The new format sees limited classes practising and racing on a single day to reduce the numbers at the circuit.

In heat one Harvey got off to a good start, climbing from 8th to 3rd within a few laps. However, a mechanical issue with the steering saw him lose pace and struggle to bring the kart home, finishing in 5th.

Heat two and Harvey lined up low down the field in 18th.

Some fantastic driving saw Harvey up into second place by lap four but the gap to the leader was already over 1.5 seconds.

Harvey chipped away lap after lap but the chasing pack had the benefit of his slipstream and he was soon battling to defend 2nd which he held to the chequered flag.

Heat three and a mid-pack start from 15th for Harvey meant another battle through the pack.

By lap five he was in the lead setting the fastest lap of the session.

Harvey dropped to 2nd on lap six and tried to work with the leader to create gap for a last lap challenge, but the chasing karts were stuck to their bumpers.

In a last lap battle for the line Harvey lost a place crossing the line in 3rd place.

It promised to be a great final, with all the front runners virtually matched on lap times throughout the day. Harvey lined up in third.

A clean start and the two leaders were already focused on trying to break away leaving Harvey and a few others battling for the remaining podium position.

In the final few laps it was anyone of the top five that could have taken the win.

After a close battle and great defensive driving by the leaders Harvey settled for 3rd and secured good points to maintain his lead in the championship.

Harvey is back out on track next weekend at Fulbeck ahead of the next British Championship round being held there early in October.
