Former Forest Green Rovers captain Joseph Mills has signed for League One side Northampton Town.

The 30-year-old rejected new terms at the New Lawn to make the move to the PTS Academy Stadium on a two year contract.

Mills made 70 appearances for Rovers in the last two seasons, scoring 12 goals, after previously playing for Perth Glory in Australia.

Joseph Mills penned a letter to Forest Green Rovers supporters after making the switch.

He said: "I just wanted to say goodbye and thank you to all at Forest Green Rovers, the staff, players and of course, the fans.

"We have shared some amazing memories over the past two years. From the Cheltenham goal at The New Lawn, where my celebration showed my passion for the club to more recently, the last-minute equaliser against Swindon.

"I was privileged enough to become captain and also make 'Team of the Decade' which will last long in my memory.

"As fans, you not only welcomed me - but my whole family who enjoyed coming to games.

"My daughter still sings 'Sweet Caroline' most days, which she learned from watching the team walk out before every home game.

"The time has come for a new challenge for myself and one I am looking forward to.

"From myself and my family, thank you again and all the best for the future."
