Wiltshire’s Louis Harvey took another step forward with his ambitions to one day race in Formula One when he was selected by Motorsport UK to join their 2020 Academy Squad Programme.

The Motorsport UK Squad programme develops and supports talented young drivers who demonstrate exceptional potential to progress through the competitors’ pathway into the Team UK programme and beyond.

Harvey’s selection was based on his performance during the 2019 season where he came 3rd in the British Karting Championship, was also crowned the Rissington Kart Club Champion as well as receiving John Payne Memorial Trophy for best overall junior along with all his other achievements in Motorsport since he started racing.

Motorsport UK Academy Coach, James Wozencroft said on their website “The Motorsport UK Squad programme offers a great opportunity for a driver to develop their knowledge in all of the factors relevant to achieving their goals in the sport. The industry experts offer real insight into specialist fields that is often not possible to access and so I’m really looking forward to working with the new selection of athletes and helping them utilise this information to become the best drivers they can be.”

Harvey said: “I am so excited I have been selected and I am really looking forward to seeing what the programme has to offer. Motorsport is more than just a hobby for me, reaching Formula 1 is very hard but I will do everything I can to achieve my dream.”

Harvey has the opportunity to take to the track in a Formula Ford later this year providing he can find additional sponsorship over and above what he needs to compete in karting.
