MALMESBURY’S Louis Harvey started the defence of his championship crown with a storming victory at Rissington Kart Club.

After only half a day’s testing on the Saturday and some very unpredictable weather conditions Harvey put in two great performances in the heats to start pole for the final. Harvey and his team Klaassen Motorsport accurately predicted the weather and track conditions for a perfect set up allowing Harvey to drive away from the pack, setting the fastest lap by nearly a second and pulling a huge 13.54 second advantage over the rest of the field as he took the chequered flag.

Sunday’s weather for racing was very unpredictable with the conditions changing by the minute but the day started well with Harvey setting the fastest lap in early practise.

Due to the number of classes racing there was only two heat before the final, so Harvey knew he had to do well to ensure a front row start.

Heat one, and Harvey started to work his way through the pack and my lap two was already up to second. Despite his best efforts the leader was already too far ahead to catch so had to settle for second place.

Heat two, and Harvey started from third on the grid and was hoping to drive away, but due to the changing conditions the kart set up was far from perfect due to last minute alterations. Undeterred he was soon in the lead but being caught by no 82. Sensing a challenge for the lead was imminent Harvey pushed to find that little bit more to maintain a good gap and take the win for heat two.

Starting pole for the final and confident that the set up was perfect for the conditions Harvey lead the race from start to finish in a flawless display of driving, setting the fastest lap and pulling out a 13.54 second advantage before crossing the finishing line.
