SHRIVENHAM upset the odds to beat Fairford Town in Hellenic League Premier Division on Tuesday night in an eight-goal thriller.

Gareth Davies’ side led by a goal at the break as midfielder Ollie Rejek struck for the visitors shortly after the half-hour mark passed.

But the game’s real drama occurred in the second half, where seven goals – five of those going to Shrivenham – entertained supporters.

Antonio Gerrish and Tom Ballard put Shrivenham up by three goals with less than 10 minutes played before Parsons made it four.

Callum Preece and Danny Gudger scored for Fairford to bring Davies a few nerves, but clinical finishing by Parsons in the final 10 minutes ensured Shrivenham left their Gloucestershire rivals with all three points in the bag.

Victory has lifted Shrivenham onto 36 points, and the gap between themselves and Fairford is now only seven.

Hellenic League action returns this weekend with 12 teams in action.

Of the local teams, only Sam Collier’s Royal Wootton Bassett are in action, though.

They travel to face Lydney Town - a team currently seventh with 29 points secured with 22 games.

Shrivenham next play on February 5 when Longlevens AFC host Davies’ squad.
