Kyle Nethercott from Latton won the English National Badminton Mixed Doubles title at Hertfordshire University last month.
Competing in the Over 55's category, he won the title with his partner, Chris Summers from Yorkshire, defeating Ian Hunter and Linda Pearcy, also from Yorkshire, comfortably in the final.
He beat the reigning champions in the semi-finals, gaining revenge over Brian Wheatley, who had defeated him earlier in the weekend in the Men’s Doubles final. On the Saturday, Wheatley and Hunter beat Nethercott and his partner, Nicholas Goode, in a hard fought final. This was sweet revenge for Nethercott beating the two people who had defeated him in the Men’s Doubles.
Unfortunately, he was unable to defend his Men’s Doubles title that he won in 2018 but nonetheless capped a very good year for him. He was a member of the successful England team, who retained the Nations Cup in June 2019, beating Denmark in the final. The tournament was played in France and included teams from Germany, Sweden, Holland, France and Ireland.
He has also been selected to represent England in the upcoming McCoig Trophy, to be played in Scotland towards the end of January 2020. This will be his 25th international cap.
