Committee Cup

DANNY HALL booked the final seat at Cirencester Golf Club’s Prizegiving Dinner in early December when successfully defending the Committee Cup on Saturday.

A grey morning and the forecast of rain thinned the field for the stableford competition which is open to all past and present members of the committee.

However, there were still two former club champions, Toby Harris and Steve Bishop, in the line-up.

Playing in the opening three-ball with Harris and Tom Waller, Danny set a good pace over the front nine and kept the pedal down on the inward nine to finish with 41 points, four shots ahead of the field.

That was four shots better than his winning score in 2018, and owed plenty to the excellent state of the greens in November.

“As I did at this time last year, I’ve found a bit of form in the last month, including fifth place in a recent seniors’ stableford,” said 15-handicapper Hall.

“I drove the ball well, gave myself a chance with some good iron approaches and did at least convert one of the makeable birdie putts.

“It was great to watch A-team players like Toby and Tom close up and I was delighted to keep my round going over the full 18 holes for a change.”

Duncan Barnes (37 points) pipped Bishop (37) on countback for second spot, although Steve wins the Captain’s Cup as a current member of the committee.

Waller (36) edged out Jonathan Wells (36) for fourth spot.

There were just three birdie twos – from Toby Harris (11th), Steve Bishop (13th) and Danny Hall (13th).

Ladies’ 14-hole Greensomes

A WONDERFUL turnout of 32 ladies played in the greensomes competition on Thursday. It was a cold, dull November day so everyone was glad that they were playing only 14 holes.

Kate Dymoke and Sue Hodgson came out on top with 29 points after a countback with eventual runners-up Jane Salter and Barbara Grimwade, who also signed for 29.

Third place went to Val Bowley and Jae Berens on 27 points following another countback with Elaine Killick and Mary Dobson who had the same score.
