Cirencester 7 Old Cryptians RFC 41

CIRENCESTER failed to topple league leaders Old Cryptians who maintained their unbeaten start to the season.

The Gloucester side started with great intent moving the ball with width, but in these early stages of the game Ciren were defending with organisation and ferocity in the tackle. But with such was weight of the possession for the school side, it was inevitable that they would score first which they duly did. Ciren did gain field position and had a sustained period of pressure in the Old Crypts 22, but they lacked the composure to put points on the board.

With half-time approaching the score had reached 0-22. Ciren were creating a great platform to work from with a solid scrum and efficient line-out, but there were to many unnecessary handling errors which allowed the away side to clear the pressure created.

With a tiring Ciren defence which was exploited with two further quick-fire tries. Ciren did get on the score sheet through second row Sam Cater who took his try well wide out, which was converted by Mike Howell, with the last score of the game completed by Crypt to seal a 7-41 victory which maintained their perfect start to the season.

Ciren will rue the opportunities created, and gain confidence with how their scrum and line-out functioned, with the concentration now being focused on the attack where greater precision will be required to finish of the encouraging approach play.
