FA Cup second qualifying round replay

Chippenham Town 4 – 3 Cirencester Town - (AET)

The first match in this FA Cup odyssey was exciting but the replay took it to another level as Charlie Griffin's Cirencester and Chippenham delivered a seven-goal thriller that was only decided by an unfortunate goal deep into the second period of extra- time, writes Dave Pyzer.

National League South Chippenham took the lead when Luke Haines smashed the ball into the roof of the net from 20 yards.

Eight minutes later Cirencester levelled when Michael Pook drove the ball through a cluster of players.

The steady rain produced a slick surface that enabled the game to be played at an incredible pace and despite being end-to-end it remained level at the interval.

The home side regained the lead seven minutes into the second half when Nat Jarvis drew the Cirencester defence towards him before slipping the ball right for Karnell Chambers to collect in space for a straightforward finish into an empty net.

Cirencester responded - John Dennis fizzed the ball inside the post.

As the 90 minutes approached, Chambers missed a good chance for Chippenham and Cirencester's Jack Freeman struck a post.

With virtually the last kick of the first period of extra-time, Cirencester's Alan Griffin completed a flowing move to tuck the ball home, but from the re-start Tariq Ossai levelled as he drove the ball home.

The match was five minutes away from a penalty shoot-out when Cirencester's hearts were broken. Keeper Lewis Clayton had the misfortune to push a Jarvis strike into his own net.
