Emirates FA Cup
first round qualifying
Cirencester Town 1
Gosport Borough 0
CIRENCESTER TOWN will face National League South outfit Chippenham Town at home in the second qualifying round of the FA Cup after Levi Irving's dramatic stoppage-time win shocked Southern Premier Gosport Borough.
Irving scored his first senior goal for Cirencester three minutes into added-time to raise the roof at the Corinium.
Charlie Griffin's side came out of the blocks quickly and as early as the fourth minute Mike Pook struck a post directly from a corner kick, but the visitors survived and in the 17th minute Matt Patterson finally tested keeper Lewis Clayton who was in position to block his effort.
The home side continued to press and as the half entered the final 10 minutes Gosport began to keep the ball longer without really troubling Cirencester.
After the interval Gosport pressed more frequently and the game became end-to-end with West Brom loanee Owen Windsor coming closest to opening the scoring following a terrific move down the right flank.
The game continued in this fashion until the final 10 minutes when Gosport began to look the more likely victors as Patterson and George Barker had pot shots at goal but Clayton refused to be beaten and in the dying embers of the tie a long punt from the keeper reached Irving who exchanged passes with Alan Griffin to enter the left channel of the penalty area to watch his strike deflected in.
Cirencester travel to Sholing on Saturday, 3pm
