South Cerney 3 ½ Brinkworth 2 ½

After a barren summer, South Cerney Seniors finally managed to secure a long-awaited victory, albeit by the narrowest of margins as they entertained Brinkworth last week.

Walter Sutherland and John Carrington enjoyed the most convincing win with a 6&4 victory over their opponents. The pairings of Andy Taylor/Ian Powell (2&1) and Rod German/Pete Barnes (3&2) also won, whilst Ian Newland/Ian Marshall halved a very close game. Defeats for Paul Taylor/Tom McLean and Guy Montezuma/John Hayward kept the match close until the final game concluded.

Autumn Texas Scramble

Sixteen three-ball teams teed off for the latest Texas Scramble in very breezy conditions, which ruled out the sort of low scoring frequently associated with this format. However, the winning team of Ian Powell, Dave Sparrow and Eric Roberts played the 18 holes in level par, reduced to 63.7 after their handicap was deducted; this left them comfortably ahead of the second-placed team of Rod German, Chris Huckle and Dave White, who shot a net 65.5.

Inaugural DGH Vallejee Foundation Golf Day raises over £2,000 for Mauritian children

The inaugural DGH Vallejee Foundation Golf Day took place at South Cerney Golf Club on Saturday 7 September. Over 60 players took part in the tournament, with the winning team of Danny McDougall, Bryan Whittaker, Keith Hughes and Dave Buckley taking home the trophy.

The event was organized by the Seniors Vice Captain, Guy Montezuma, who is originally from Mauritius and set up DGH Vallejee Foundation in 2005 to assist poor children in the Cite Vallejee and Cassis suburbs of Port Louis, the Capital of Mauritius.

Guy would like to thank South Cerney Golf Club for hosting the event and everyone who attended and supported the event with their kind donations and sponsorship.
