One swallow doesn't make a summer and Shortwood co-manager Matt Blythe is keeping both feet on the ground after his side hit Bourton Rovers for six in the Hellenic League Cup.

Joe Wilton followed up his four-goal salvo from the 14-1 win over New College Swindon with a hat-trick. Bourton only trailed 1-0 at the break- Wilton notching on 37 minutes. Shortwood hit five after the break with Josh Kerr making it 2-0 on 66 minutes. Shortwood struck four times in the final eight minutes. Wilton grabbing his second on 83 minutes, Lee Bowles adding the fourth just a minute later. Tom Black made it five with four minutes to go and Wilton completed his hat-trick on 91 minutes.

Blythe said: "We went into the game on the back of a couple of positive results and we started quite brightly.

"We played some good football in the first-half but we’re guilty of not taking our chances so the game was always in the balance.

"Going into half-time 1-0 up the next goal was going to be important. Thankfully we got the second goal and we finished the game quite strongly with some good goals being scored. It’s very early days for this group and we are still getting to know each other on-and-off-the-pitch but we can’t fault the attitude at the moment."

Shortwood travel to Dunstable Town in the FA Cup on Sunday, 3pm.
