FAIRFORD TOWN boss Jody Bevan heaped praise on his side after they got off to an opening-day flyer.

Town beat Hellenic Premier Division newcomers Burnham 3-0 at The Gore. After a blank first-half it was left to Ben Lodge to break the stalemate on 65 minutes. Harvey Scholes made it 2-0 with five minutes to go and Danny Bailey struck in added time.

Bevan said: " Obviously it was a fantastic result. I would go as far as saying it was the most professional performance in my time at the club.

"We kept things very tight and there was very little between the two teams before we scored with about 25 minutes to go.

"From there we bossed the game and we looked the fitter team at the end, which was very pleasing. Burnham are a good team and I don't think too many teams will go there and win.

"The scoreline was probably a bit flattering in the end, but I don't want to take anything away from our lads who were excellent on the day. Hopefully we can keep those standards up for the tough trip to Lydney on Tuesday.
