SWIMMING

Cirencester Swimming Club had 12 representatives at the annual Inter-County Swimming Championships earlier this month.

The swimmers all qualified for the competition after their excellent results at the Gloucestershire County Championships back in January and February where a selection of the fastest swimmers made the cut for the inter-county competition.

The swimmers represented Gloucestershire against both Staffordshire and Worcestershire on Sunday, July 7 in a range of events.

Standout results for Cirencester saw Alex Cohoon win the 100m freestyle, with Zach Hitchcock-Smith finishing second.

Finley Mooney came third in the 50m backstroke while Olivia Kerr-Muir also finished third in the100m breaststroke.

Other Cirencester swimmers to take part in the event were Ischia Howells, Ella-Louise Herbert, Isabella Stenson, Samuel Kempster, Kirsten Powell, Alex Green, Ella Kempster and Henry Sheffield.

Their efforts were in vain though as Gloucestershire finished third behind Worcestershire and Staffordshire in what was an intensely fought competition.
