Cirencester Athletics and Triathlon Club - round one

The week started with Wendy Nicholls leading a select team Cirencester runners who grabbed a much sought after place in the Frampton 10km.

On an evening when everyone, some with the Cotswold Way Relay still in their legs, struggled to get near their PB, Kate Sackett’s planned attack came to nothing when she was forced to withdraw after being pushed over seconds from the start line but Ruth Fulford went well to finish first V65.

Henry Sheffield was the only Under 13 Junior to have a crack at the Mile in the first of the Cheltenham Open Track meetings of this year. His very competitive time of 4.59.1 brought him in just sub five minutes and in a rewarding 8th place.

8 Henry Sheffield (Cirencester AC) 4:59.1

Dave Bell faced tougher than usual competition in the Evesham 10k. Dave, who has won this event four times in the past, had to be content with 3rd place after being tipped off the back by the two lead runners who both managed impressive sub 33 times on a relatively slow course. New comer Ross Swain could be pleased with his 40.41 bringing him in in 22nd place.

Official results for the Buscot 10k and of individual performances in the Cotswold Way Relay are still not available but unofficially we understand James Thomas was 2nd and Aaron Willis 6th in the Buscot 10k despite having done a leg of the Relay the day before.

Results of last week’s Lakeland 100K confirm that Rupert Chesmore finished second MV60 and close to halfway down the field having completed 63+ hilly miles in 19.34. The event started as midnight forcing runners to stumble and creep over several rocky, ankle busting sections in the dark before running on over yet more hills to finish in the early evening but not before the 3800m of ascent combined with unusually high temperatures had forced 30% to drop out.
