Former Cirencester Town defender Ellis Dunton has joined Hellenic Premier Division side Fairford Town.

Dunton played a key role for Cirencester as they finished second last season in the Evo-Stik Division One South last season.

The defender, who can play left back and centre half, made 39 appearances and scored four goals for the Centurions last season.

Dunton joined Fairford before their 3-0 friendly defeat against National League North side Gloucester City on Thursday night.

Fairford boss Jody Bevan was pleased to add Dunton to his squad and was impressed with his winning mentality.

"I'm delighted first and foremost because Ellis is a very good player," said Bevan.

"It was no surprise to me that there has been plenty of interest from clubs a league or two higher than us, where he had some very attractive offers financially.

"But once I learnt that his work commitments meant it would be a struggle to commit to training on Tuesdays and Thursdays I thought it would be worth getting in touch.

"As soon as I spoke with Ellis he was always very keen.

"Obviously he knows Reidy and I and a lot of the lads which was a help too.

"What struck me throughout every conversation we had, was his attitude was all about winning games. It is that mentality that I want to rub off on the rest of the squad."

Bevan's side finished 13th in the Hellenic Premier last season and feels they can push on further next season given Dunton's arrival.

"Last season I think we were nearly men, capable of pulling out great results but could never go on a run of winning a number of games consecutively," he explained.

"The addition of Ellis and Connor not only increases the quality within the group but will also help to raise the expectation and the standards we strive to achieve on the pitch."
