Cain & Fuller CDCA Division 1 Results

With the leaders of the Cain & Fuller CDCA Div 1 not playing this week the opportunity was there for the chasing pack to cut the deficit.

Barnsley Beeches, in second place, did just that with a 20 point win over Fairford 2nd XI at Barnsley Park. After a poor start batting first the hosts responded with good knocks from Josh Odom (81*), Tom Dykes (56) and Akalanka Udara (33), the same three players who scored runs last week. Good bowling from Jacob Young (3-41) and David Taylor (2-34) provided a challenge but could not prevent Barnsley from posting an impressive 232-7. The second innings started as a mirror of the first with three quick wickets followed by three significant knocks from Tom Sealey (53), Louis Cussack (38) and Simon Embleton-Smith (34). However tight bowling from Andrew Coulter (3-19), Josh Odom (2-12), Vijay Sankuratri (2-13) and Robert Denney (2-35) created run-rate pressure, which led to wickets, which in turn led to the visitors being bowled out 47 runs short on 185.

The ball dominated the bat at South Cerney where visitors Minety & Northleach found the going tough against the tight bowling of Chris Wearing (4-36), Sam Catterall (2-30) and Garrick Chivers (2-36). Giles Wellman (27) and Dave Gould (26) provided the backbone of the innings allowing the visitors to post a moderate 140 all out. In reply South Cerney found the going equally tough with Dave Gould (3-24), Stuart Hobbs (2-17) and Tony Gardner (2-29) hard to get away. Wickets fell at regular intervals and only Craig O’Keefe (27) put bat to ball leaving a disappointed South Cerney all out for only 102.

At Bibury it was the Oakridge new generation which excelled as the visitors left with the points after a fine game of cricket. Batting first George Phillips (57), with good support from Adrian Seakins (29), put the hosts in a strong position but excellent bowling from U15 bowlers Sam Grimstead 4-20 and Charlie Mead (3-15) restricted Bibury to a competitive 184-9 at tea. In reply Oakridge got off to a steady start but one wicket very quickly turned into seven as a fine burst from Nouan Wickie (5-71) saw the visitors slump to 57-7 facing a big defeat. However opener Martin Smith (88*) held steady at one end and found a willing partner in Chris Evans (39) who helped take Oakridge close to the finishing line. To add to the tension two further wickets fell as Oakridge just held on to record a thrilling win at 185-9.

In the final match hosts Ashton Keynes came out on top in another close encounter with visitors Avening & Cherington. Batting first the visitors posted 164-8 off their allotted 40 overs. After the break Ashton Keynes kept up with the rate but lost wickets steadily eventually reaching the target with 2 wickets to spare at 165-8.
