THE Macmillan Cancer Golf Day proved a great success at Cirencester Golf Club on Friday for which approximately £7,000 was raised.

The presentation table of prizes was positively groaning thanks to the generous backing from firms and individuals who sponsored each of the 18 holes.

Refreshments and food in the clubhouse were in constant demand and The Halfway House was well stocked and pleasantly served.

Squally showers and a stiff breeze for much of the day made scoring tough but the cream rose to the top with the team headed by club champion Toby Harris taking the top prize with 85 points.

The competition was a stableford format with the best two scores (out of the teams of four) to count on each hole.

RESULT: 1st – Logicals 2 (Toby Harris, Craig Sutherland, Charlie Buse and Adrian Kember) 85 points.

2nd – The Undateables (Mitch Caunt, Lewis Flett, Nick Peare and Martin Righton) 84 points.

3rd – CIA Select (Tony Francis, Robert Gough, Craig Holloway and Steve Bishop) 83 points.

4th – Fish Brothers Renault 83 points.

Nearest the pin prizes: Mark Clayton (2nd), Gwyn Tracy (9th), Paul Gardner (13th).
