SHORTWOOD UNITED have appointed Simon Blythe as first-team coach.

Blythe links up with his younger brother Mat, who was named Shortwood joint-manager last month alongside Jason Scrivens.

Blythe, who started his playing career under Terry Cooper at Bristol City before moving to Shortwood and helping them win the treble in 1989.

Blythe said: “ I had been looking to get back involved in the game and had taken a look at a couple of clubs before the opportunity of getting involved at Shortwood came around.

"I know Jason anyway and when Mat joined, we started discussing the coaching role. Having previously had some fantastic times during my playing days with the club I thought it too good an opportunity to turn down.

"The club have obviously just come through a very testing season but with Jason and Mat's knowledge and enthusiasm and with the introduction of the new development side I'm sure the club can look forward to an exciting campaign.”

Joint-manager Scrivens is relishing working alongside Blythe, he said: “We’re delighted to get Simon on board. He’s gained lots of experience over the years and had a good grounding at Bristol City – we can’t wait to get started.”

Shortwood training starts on Monday, June 17 at Archway School, 6.30pm for 6.45pm start and on Wednesday. All current and new players welcome.
