GARETH Noyes, who played for Cirencester Town for more than 20 years, showed he’s not too shabby on the golf course either at the weekend when winning one of the major trophies at the club, the Birthday Vase.

Gareth shot an excellent nett 65 off his 17 handicap to beat the 111-strong field by two clear shots in quite fiery conditions, with wind and light rainpicking up through the morning.

Gareth did some great work with eight pars and a birdie and recovered from a lost-ball seven at the 14th to hold on from Luke Risby (nett 67), who had back-to-back birdies on the 13th and 14th.

“I just relaxed in the rain, I was determined to enjoy the round, and everything clicked,” said Gareth. Chris Dewhurst took third ahead of another trio who shot nett 67s – Steve Hooper, Glenn Skinley and Danny Hall – who were separated on countback.

Gerry Coetzee completed his run of shooting a one-over-par 72 in five of the six strokeplay events he has contested this season for the best gross score of the day. There were seven birdie twos recorded from: Glenn Skinley (2nd), Richard Allen (9th), Robin Rose (11th), Dan Skinley (11th), Adam Collins (13th), Dan Gregory (13th) and Luke Risby.
