South Cerney 4 ½ Cirencester 1 ½

South Cerney cast aside their recent inconsistent form to take a convincing victory over Cirencester.

Cirencester managed only one victory as Tony Killick shot a wonderful 3-over gross score on the back nice to recover from two down at the turn and clinch a 1-up victory over Andy Taylor and Matthew Smith. The home team’s winning pairs were Nigel Rawlings/John Quick (3&1), Cameron Thomson/Ian Haslam (4&2), Paul Taylor/Bob Owen (5&4) and Walter Sutherland/Guy Montezuma (2 up), where having been four down after four holes, a succession of pars from Guy set the scene for Walter to hole out from 70 yards on the final hole. In the final match Colin Bulley and Ian Powell halved.

John Watson Trophy

THE annual Stableford competition which commemorates the short but popular captaincy of John Watson was won in style by the consistent Ian Haslam with 40 points, pipping John Whittaker who garnered 39 points. The Seniors were delighted to welcome, the late Captain’s brother, Steve Watson who presented Ian with the trophy and a bottle of Scotch.

Ladies Mixed Stableford

EIGHT mixed teams competed in a Stableford competition with the team of Lesley McCabe, Dave Beckley and Colin Bulley coming home in first place with 75 points. Second was June Daniels, Mary Beard and Chris Huckle with 73 pts.The parallel 9-hole contest was won by Jean Cole, Mo Simpson, Chris Saunders and Keith Smith.
