DAN Davis stroked his way to a memorable unbeaten 185 for Thornbury who moved up to fourth in WEPL Premier Two Glos/Wilts with a 123-run home win over promoted Stroud, writes Steve Hill.

The opener hit 28 fours and three sixes after facing 156 balls, and so dominated his side’s challenge of 294-7 after winning the toss that the next highest scorer was Marc Lezar on 22.

Davis gave just one chance, on 80 in the 34th over at midwicket, before going on to overcome his previous best of 176 for the club – and notch up the highest individual knock this season so far in WEPL.

Thornbury then produced a fine team display in the field to wrap up their second win with skipper Luke Davis, Tom Bradley and Yvan Grant all bagging three wickets apiece.

Frocester made it two in a row with a 90-run triumph at Trowbridge, Alex Russell capturing 4-19, but Dumbleton slipped up by 50 runs away to unbeaten leaders Burbage & Easton Royal.

In Premier One, captain Tom Smith inspired Bedminster who inflicted a first defeat of the summer on Downend.

The Gloucestershire all-rounder top scored with an unbeaten 63 to steer his side to 276-7 and followed up with a return of 1-31 from ten overs of spin in an 81-run triumph.

Bristol fell by eight wickets at Taunton St Andrews and promoted Cheltenham are still looking for their first win after a 41-run reverse at champions Clevedon.

The last wicket pair of Ryan Adams and Lawrence Cook put on 19 to clinch an exciting win for Bishopston at Weston-super-Mare in Premier Two Bristol/Somerset while Gloucestershire captain Chris Dent smashed an unbeaten 88 off just 44 balls for promoted Winterbourne who dispatched Taunton by nine wickets.

Richard Trotman took 3-49 and blasted an unbeaten 139 for Twyford House who completed a seven-wicket win at Frenchay in the Bristol & North Somerset division.

Leaders Bristol are the only remainng unbeaten side in this division after trumping Stapleton by eight wickets, skipper Archie Fellowes unbeaten on 89.

Brislington chased down 227 at Bath 2nds for their first success but Bristol West Indian Phoenix faltered by 37 runs at home to Timsbury.

Opener Ryan Pietersen (112) and Darryl Losper (120) put on 249 for the second wicket for Knowle who went on to defeat Congresbury by 123 runs.

James Cook top scored on 87 for Frocester 2nds who held on for a three-run home victory against Rockhampton, and it was also tight at Tewkesbury where Painswick nipped in by one wicket, Reece Morris hitting 92 and skipper Jack Hobbis weighing in with a crucial unbeaten 22.
