History was created at Tetbury Cricket Club as their first ever all girls team played their first match at Cam.

It was a day to remember despite losing by 24 runs.

After an excellent winter programme, the girls squad were ready for their first ever game.

Cam won the toss and opted to field first. In pairs cricket, players bat as a duo (for 4 or 5 overs, depending on numbers) and set a score.

Each individual score is added up. Any wickets are then added as bonus points to the fielding team’s score.

The opening pair were Emily Payne and Lois Fisher who did a sterling job, pinching singles when opportunities came.

Second to bat were Chloe Smith and Eva Weston, who contributed 21 runs to the team total. The third pair was Olivia Pearson and Lucy Cox who added 16 runs. They were followed by Masha Weerasekara and Evie Townsend who accumulated a 10-run partnership.

The final trio were Taylin Punshon, Niamh Tuley and Nicole Fearon, the latter two sharing the four overs between them. They finished on 90 runs for the loss of just four wickets.

Tetbury then came out to bowl. Nicole opened the bowling and took a wicket with the first ball.

Niamh bowled in tandem with Nicole and bowled some excellent deliveries.

Evie and Eva then bowled in tandem for overs 5-8 doing really well to restrict scoring opportunities for the batsman.

Masha and Olivia bowled the middle overs, providing an extra bit of pace to the attack. A special mention to Chloe as wicket keeper, one of the younger members of the group, taking the gloves for the first time against a hard ball. Chloe did superbly behind the stumps. Both did well, offering few chances for the batsman to score.

The fourth pair were Taylin and Lucy, who only conceded three runs each from their two overs and Taylin also managed to pick up her first wicket for the club.

The final pair were Emily and Lois. Despite the occasional boundary, both picked up two wickets each.

Final score: Cam: 149 for 7

Tetbury: 125 for 4
