Malmesbury 2 Easington 0

Malmesbury Victoria have closed the gap at the top to just three points with victory over league leaders Easington Sport on Saturday.

Jamie Packer scored a goal in each half to give Malmesbury the win that gives them a real chance of winning the title with two games still to play.

Easington started well and missed some early opportunities before Packer opened the scoring as the Vics stamped their authority on the game.

The visitors improved in the second half and Malmesbury keeper Ant Brown saved well from Owen James.

Victoria sealed it late on as Easington pushed for an equalised and the hosts hit them on the break and Packer finished it off.

The win moved Malmesbury into second place although Cheltenham Saracens could go above them if they win by seven in their game tonight.

Almondsbury could have a huge say on who win Hellenic Division One West as they face both Malmesbury and Easington.

Cheltenham and Thornbury Town can both win the title also.

Thornbury have two games in hand over the top two despite currently occupying fifth spot.
