Cirencester Town consolidated their place in the play-offs as two second half goals helped them to victory over fellow contenders Evesham United.

Alan Griffin and Owen Windsor made it back to back wins for Cirencester who opened up a five point gap over their opponents.

Both sides will also be cursing their luck as the woodwork was struck four times but Cirencester came out as deserved victors in the end.

Charlie Griffin made one change to the team that won 4-1 at Fleet Town with Owen Windsor replacing Jordon Morris.

Leading scorer Ben Whitehead was still missing with injury.

Cirencester were dealt an early blow in the opening five minutes as keeper Mat Wieczorek went off with an injury and was replaced by Sam Ayres.

Both sides had good early chances. Tommy Anderson hit the post with a header while Kane Simpson forced Ayres into an early save.

Simpson almost gave the visitors the lead when his low driven free-kick from 20 yards cannoned off the post.

The game opened up as the half progressed and both teams had their moments.

Cirencester's Will Christopher came close with a 25 yard piledriverwhich was just tipped over by the keeper before the post was struck down the other end directly from Adam Page's corner.

The game continued in the same vein in the second half and the hosts took the lead on 53 minutes when Michael Pook cut the ball across the box and Griffin swept home from close range.

Evesham responded well but they'll be glad to see the back of the posts at the Corinium as they were again denied by the upright. Toumani Sidibe smashed the ball right off the frame of the goal from a tight angle on the hour.

They weren't the only ones cursing the framework though as six minutes later, Aidan Bennett struck the bar with a cross-shot before Anderson's shot was blocked.

Both keepers were called into action within a minute to deny Stephen Davies and Jack Freeman respectively but it was the hosts who got the second goal when Anderson found Windsor in space and he showed great composure to apply the finish.

The Centurions saw out the game professionally to keep a strong hold in the play-offs and are now eight points off the league leaders.
