Fleet Town 1 Cirencester Town 4

Alan Griffin scored a brace as Cirencester Town overcame bottom club Fleet Town on Saturday.

Cirencester suffered an early setback at but recovered in the second half to take the points.

‘The Centurions’ struggled to play their normal fluid passing game on a hard, bumpy surface whilst their opponents more direct approach enabled them to take an early lead when a cross from the right was headed home by Billy Oram.

As the half progressed Cirencester began to press but the home side were quick to counter and posed a few problems for the visitors.

Within two minutes of the restart Cirencester equalised as Griffin headed-on a throw-in from the left for Tommy Anderson to convert at the back post.

Just before the hour mark Griffin headed against the bar and a few minutes later he nodded into the path of Aidan Bennett who flicked the ball over his marker before volleying into the net to give the visitors the lead.

At this stage Cirencester were also adopting a more direct approach and shortly afterwards Griffin pulled a long punt out of the air to follow up with a sublime volley over the home keeper.

To their credit Fleet were still dangerous on the break and created a couple of chances but in the final minutes

Cirencester were awarded a penalty after their keeper flattened Owen Windsor and Griffin smashed it inside the left post to complete the scoring.

Cirencester host Evesham United this weekend.
