STRATTON YOUTH U/12S were home to Abbey Meads and in very difficult conditions were endured by both sides this week on a pitch that cut up after overnight rain on Saturday night.

Despite this both teams played some good football throughout. Stratton’s front two Of Jonny Reynolds and Harvey Williams combined well in the early exchanges resulting in both getting on the score sheet within the first 10 minutes.

Some good support and excellent through ball from Jonas Smith helped Jonny Reynolds pick up a further goal.

A combination of great goalkeeping by the Abbey Mead goalkeeper and a succession of balls hitting the post kept the score line down before Harvey Williams scored his second of the match.

Abbey Mead scored a goal themselves before half time to reduce the deficit but Stratton went into the half time break with a healthy lead.

A switch around in positions at half time saw Nye Thomas - Jones score a hat-trick with some excellent forward play and a ‘never say die’ attitude which brought him his three goals. Ethan Langfield swapped his tough tackling in midfield to support the attack and to scored another for the Blues.

Abbey Mead to their credit kept their heads up, battled hard for every ball and continued to play some good passing football and were rewarded with another goal. Overall despite the wet and cold both teams can be proud of their attitudes and performances.

STRATTON YOUTH U/10S travelled to Swindon to meet the Robins.

The games so far this season have been very entertaining and this encounter was no different. Although there was a delayed start on a cold, wet morning the U10s came out firing on all cylinders in the first quarter and played some fantastic football on a boggy pitch.

Despite end to end action the quarter looked as though it was heading to a goalless stalemate until Idris Thomas-Jones picked up the ball midway in the pitch and went past one opposition player before firing the ball from around 25 yards into the top corner.

The ‘keeper stood no chance from his powerful shot that dipped under the crossbar at the last moment and it is definitely a contender for goal of the season.

One negative was the U10s ‘keeper Luke Dawson had to come off injured at the end of the quarter so was replaced by Ez Allen.

Ez only had one save to make in the second quarter but it was crucial as he dashed from his line to collect a 50/50 ball right at the feet of the opposing player. The U10s looked in control and created several chances with Louis Kingsbury and Dylan Morse opening up play well.

Again, right at the end of the quarter, the U10s scored after a great move that saw Louis move the ball out to Dylan who put in a great cross for Fin Stratford to blast home.

The second half saw the Robins push forward to get back into the game which led to breaks for both teams.

After Fin Marshall saw a shot ricochet off an opposition player in their area the ball fell to the Robins who played a long pass over the top for their player to run onto and just beat Ez to score.

Ez hurt himself in the process meaning the U10s had to use a third ‘keeper with Louis stepping up to go between the sticks.

Despite the change to formation Ez’s injury created the U10s continued to generate chances with Arthur Quli and Fin Stratford going close. Idris then volunteered to go in goal for the last quarter and the game continued to flow from end to end. The Robins got a break in midfield and a fine run and finish saw them draw level.

Both teams continued to push for the win and had chances to do so but the final whistle blew without any further goals.

STRATTON YOUTH U/10S BLUES had a home fixture and dominated the game at the start of the match.

Jack Cummins and Mike Bettington-Walker both went close and it looked as though the Blues would surely score given the majority of possession they had.

However, in a complete turnaround, they suddenly found themselves three goals down after three lightening quick attacks by the opposition.

The Blues’ defence could not cope with the speed and strength of the two opposition forwards.

In the second quarter they again had the majority of possession and began to carve out chances but, similarly to the first quarter, they couldn’t take theirs and the opposition were lethal with any chance that came their way.

It looked as though they were going to get back into it when Harry Maloney poked home but two goals from the opposition gave an unflattering and rather undeserved scoreline at half time.

Harley Bennett came out of goal for the second half and his strength made a difference.

The Blues had six or seven one on ones with the opposition ‘keeper but could not find a way through while Wroughton scored with their only attack of the half. The last quarter was another even contest with the Blues again creating several scoring opportunities but were unable to get back into it.

Player of the match was Bertie Jarvis for his.
