Malmesbury Victoria boss Andy Wicks has called for his players to believe in themselves in their pursuit of top four and a trophy.

The Vics are currently fifth and still in three cup competitions after Tuesday’s 4-3 Floodlit Cup victory over Didcot Town Development on Tuesday.

Shane Bumphrey scored a brace while Jack Ellis scored a stunner. Jamie Packer also got on the scoresheet.

Wicks has been delighted with what he’s seen in recent weeks and has urged his players to believe they can achieve big things this season.

“ I’m happy,” he said. “I said to the boys, all joking aside we can do really well. We’re still in three cups so we can get top four and go far .

“I truly believe in the lads. I told them to believe in themselves and it proved on Saturday because of the way the game went, we had to dig in because at half time we were winding them up and they were winding us up and it was niggly but we rolled our sleeves up second half.”

Malmesbury are in cup action again this weekend, this time against Stokenchurch in the third round of the Supplementary Cup on Saturday and Wicks is hoping for more of the same from his team.

“We don’t know too much about them, we’ll do what we do every week.,” added Wicks.

“The good thing with the cups is that the league isn’t big so you’re not playing a stupid amount of games even with a cup run.”
