The McAdams find a way.

With icy roads and snow covered trails forcing the cancellation of any local events, Alan and Rachel still managed to find a unaffected parkrun in Burnham and Highbridge.

Both ran well with Rachel nearly dipping below her hard to reach 26 minute hurdle.

Readers may be interested to hear that they were on their way to Exeter taking son Isaac to compete on behalf of Loughborough University in the British Universities Cross Country Championships.

Having described himself as a ‘make weight’ in the Loughborough B team he will have been pleased to be well up the field.

Meanwhile, the South West Schools Championships were also cancelled so our junior members will have to run another day.

Burnham & Highbridge: 76 Alan McAdam 24.34, 94 Rachel McAdam 26.03, 329 finished.

In the absence of any competitive running – which the club exists to support – it is worth considering why members run at all.

Every member will give you different answer but these will include “to get fit”, “to get out and about in beautiful countryside”, “to help with pressures and stress”, “to meet and make friends” and last but not least “to eat cake”.

Neatly combining at least three of these is our own Chedworth Roman Trail Race.

It provides 10 miles of great running, through stunning countryside ending with the best selection of cakes you'll ever find.

Taking place on April 14th, it is filling up fast on EntryCentral.

Entries are also open for the Summer Sizzler run in the traffic free confines of Cirencester Park on the evening of Wednesday 12th June with a Junior Race starting at 6.30 pm.

Finally, for those more interested in the social aspect of running, a reminder that a group with links to the club leaves the Leisure Centre at 9am every Thursday morning.

They run a variety of distances between 5 and 10 miles on a mixture of road and trails before returning for coffee (and frequently cake) at the Leisure Centre.
