Linda Franks '5', Cheltenham, five miles road

Karen Higuera kicked off her assault on the 2019 Gloucestershire AAA Road Championships with a fine run in the Linda Franks 5.

Despite the greasy conditions and tight turns of this “impossible to get a place” course, Karen turned out yet another PB with chip timing suggesting she averaged under 7 minutes per mile.

If she can only stay injury free, Karen looks to have an exciting year ahead.

1 Steve Kenyon (Gloucester AC) 27.03

74 Karen Higuera (Cirencester AC) 35.02 2nd FV45-55

Gloucester ½ Marathon, Quedgeley, 13.1 miles road

Corrine Clark continued to demonstrate her strength as a road runner completing the Gloucester Half Marathon in 1.27.

Tim Ingham and James Widdowson also ran true to their new found form both finishing sub 1.40.

Neil Broadley followed and Peter Rowland used the relatively flat two lap course to knock 15 minutes from his PB.

Peter gives the credit for his progress to his regular Sunday morning runs with the club although he was the first to admit his previous PB was set on The Forest of Dean trail course.

Finally Barbara Thomas slightly bettered her time for Stroud.

The organisers will have been relieved that this event went smoothly following all the problems with their 10 mile race a few weeks ago but Dave Bell dropped out in the first mile with an injury causing concern as soon as he hit his (formidable) race pace.

1 Phil Burden (Taunton AC) 1.12.28

57 Corinne Clark (Cirencester AC) 1.27.41 – 6th lady

126 Tim Ingham 1.35.46

176 James Widdowson 1.39.37

392 Neil Broadley 1.54.32

447 Peter Rowland 1.58.24

611 Barbara Thomas 2.14.01

722 finished.

parkruns, 5km trail

Run of the week to Ian Barrett who tried out the relatively new, and reputedly fast, Gloucester City course but failed (just) to finish in under 18 minutes amid confusion as to whether he was actually first or second behind an unknown phantom runner.

Simon Campbell proved what he can do without the buggy by sailing round Cirencester to finish in first place. He was followed by juniors Sam Cook and Tom Prosser with Matt Ulyatt, Nicola Denning and Lee Lawrence in the mix.

Pam Wheeler just managed to stay ahead of a steadily returning Rachel Ranger. Finally Cirencester saw disappointing times for both junior Ella Shaftoe and Nina Lawrence.

The McAdam family went to Chippenham where Jacob finished third and Kate Sackett had to settle for second lady at Stonehouse. Barbara Thomas and David Moss had their usual outings at Swindon while Tristan King popped up at Newent and Kate Fitton ran near her new home in Tring.

Martin Croucher celebrated his return from his travels by running in Gloucester with Rupert Chesmore in hot pursuit and Liza Darroch, again in a support role, at the rear.
