Evo-Stik Southern League Division 1 South

Cirencester Town 4

Melksham Town 0

Cirencester Town climbed to fourth in the Evo-Stik Southern League Division One South with a thumping win over Melksham Town at the Corinium Stadium writes Dave Pyzer.

Despite a dominant first half performance, The Centurions only scored one goal to lead at the interval but they added three more without reply after the break to complete a solid 4-0 victory.

Following their three victories over the Christmas/New Year period Cirencester began very confidently, as within the first three minutes visiting keeper Alex Shaftoe had punched a corner kick clear and tipped a Ben Whitehead drive onto his cross-bar but despite the pressure it took 16 minutes for Cirencester to open their account when Aidan Bennett latched onto another clearance to strike a superb half–volley inside the right post from the edge of the box.

Ten minutes from the interval a Jon Davies free kick for the visitors brought a flying save from Mat Wieczorek, as he pushed the effort over his top left corner, and this encouraged Melksham who began to threaten as the half drew to a close.

After the break Cirencester again started positively and it took five minutes for Melksham to get their first serious touch of the ball but after this it became fairly even in terms of possession.

Cirencester always looked the more dangerous going forward and just before the mid-point of the half, Bennett added a second when his shot was too powerful for Shaftoe to keep out.

Six minutes later it was three as Whitehead swept the ball home following a good move down the right flank.

Jordan Morris completed the scoring shortly before the end of the match when he collected a pass just inside the box to slip a delicate effort past the advancing Shaftoe as Cirencester won their fourth consecutive victory.
