Mangotsfield United 1

Cirencester Town 5

Cirencester Town made it 10 goals from their last two matches as they put Mangotsfield United to the sword on New Year's Day.

Mangotsfield started positively but Cirencester survived and began to counter and by the mid-point of the half were looking very dangerous and, having already struck the woodwork, it was no surprise when they opened the scoring shortly afterwards as a quickly taken free-kick was slipped down to Ben Whitehead to cross to the far post where Alan Griffin finished from a yard.

Two minutes later, it was 2-0 as Aidan Bennett laid the ball into the path of Whitehead and the prolific striker made no mistake from the edge of the box.

Despite this double setback the home side pressed again to win a couple of corners before a lob to the edge of the Cirencester area turned into a race between keeper Mat Wieczorek and Louis Britton that resulted in the home player firing into the empty net.

Cirencester responded almost immediately when Bennett placed his right footed curler inside the far post from just inside the area.

On the stroke of the half-time Bennett delivered the ball across to Tommy Anderson who sidestepped his marker before scoring.

With nothing to lose the home side pressed forward after the break but despite this Wieczorek was only called into action a couple of times to deal with shots from distance whilst Cirencester were dangerous on the counter.

As the game entered its final phase Jack Freeman completed the scoring when he fired into the top corner.

Cirencester are fifth in the Evo-Stick South Division One South.
