Cirencester Town's play-off hopes were dented after a disappointing defeat away at Street on Saturday.

Cirencester took the game to their hosts and opened the scoring after 14 minutes when Aidan Bennett latched onto a clearance following a corner kick and placed his shot into the top right corner.

The home side responded but never really threatened 'The Centurions' goal thanks to some sterling defending and shortly after the mid-point of the first half, Ben Whitehead had the ball in the back of the net again but it was ruled out for offside earlier in the move.

Cirencester continued to press and had a number of near misses and going to the break still only led by their solitary goal.

After the interval, despite threatening several times, Cirencester failed to add the killer second goal and as a result their hosts began to grow in confidence and work their way into the game and as the final 15 minutes approached they began to probe their visitors defence.

The increasing pressure eventually told when Steve Murray received a pass on the edge of the Cirencester area, evaded a challenge, and fired inside the far left post to level the score.

Four minutes later, Street took the lead when a deep cross from their left flank was headed back across the six yard box for David O'Hare to finish from a yard out.

Street negotiated the remaining few minutes to secure their victory and take the three points on offer.

Cirencester take on Highworth Town at home on Boxing Day before they host Bristol Manor Farm, who they beat 4-1 in the reverse fixture on the opening day of the season, on Saturday, December 29.
