Fairford........ 0

Fairford Town’s winning run came to an end as they were put to the sword by high flying Ascot United.

After a goalless first half, Ascot scored twice in the second period before Robbie James was dismissed with ten minutes to go.

The game was evened up just three minutes later when Louis Bouwers was sent off, but they sealed the win in the 91st minute on a day to forget for Jody Bevan’s side.

Fairford had some decent early chances. Michael Oakes skied over in the 17th minute before Danny Bailey’s effort was tipped over four minutes later.

After a goalless first half, Ascot improved in the second half. Geoff Kibaki shot wide before they took the lead through Dan Price’s sublime 25-yard free kick which flew over the wall and into the bottom corner.

Kibaki then rattled the upright from an improbable angle as Ascot came close to doubling their lead.

Fairford did respond as Oakes fired wide before Bailey’s shot deflected wide, but their reprieve was short lived as Ascot scored their second when Jonny Denton drilled a low cross-shot that slipped through the gloves of the embarrassed Chris Randall with 10 minutes to go.

Fairford’s prospects of recovery were all but ended when James received a second yellow card for tripping up Price.

Three minutes later, Ascot’s Bouwers then received a red card for a clumsy challenge to even it up.

The game was settled in injury time when Denton’s right footed shot found the net. Fairford are ninth in the Hellenic Premier.
