Yate Town boss Paul Britton has demanded his players up their game when they take on rivals Cirencester Town on Saturday.

The Bluebells bounced back from their first league defeat of the season with a 1-0 win over Winchester City last weekend despite not being at their best.

Britton feels his team need to perform better if they're to get a result against a Centurions he rates highly.

"Cirencester are a good side so we need to perform better than we did on Saturday," said Britton.

"They’re organised and their strikeforce is a handful. "Ben Whitehead scored 40 odd goals last season so they’re a formidable force. We’ve got to be bang at it because Cirencester are also very resilient as they showed against Slimbridge, coming back three times so they will be up there come the end of the season, I have no doubt about that."

“The Yate boss has also urged the fans to turn up in numbers in what he believes is a big game in the club's season.

“I’m hoping for a big crowd and Yate fans come and support us, which they have so far because we’ll need them," Britton added.

One of Yate's star performers has been on-loan Forest Green Rovers keeper Lewis Thomas and Britton is hoping to keep him beyond the end of his current loan deal.

“Thomas’ loan ends on December 22 and we’re hoping to sort something out for him to stay," Said Britton. "He’s enjoying it and the lads have created an icon picture of Lewis’ face on a statue (after Mark Cooper's comments).

“We do things properly here so if we can continue to help Lewis in his development then that’s great.”

Meanwhile, Cirencester Town boss Charlie Griffin is relishing Saturday's clash against the league leaders.

The Centurions currently lie in the play-off places despite drawing their last two and could go within three points of the Bluebells who Griffin rates.

“I have been really impressed with Yate,” said Griffin.“I have watched them a number of times – they try play from the back and get the ball forward early doors and play-off Nick Peare.”

Griffin thinks Yate have a number of dangerous players, including former Cirencester striker Olly Mehew and he's also liked what he's seen of Thomas.

“Olly has done really well for them and Lewis looks a top prospect,” added Griffin.

Griffin confirmed Hereford loanee goalkeeper Martin Horsell will be back for the trip to Yate. Meanwhile, Jordan Morris and Antonio Gerrish have joined Shrivenham on loan.
