Chipping Sodbury Res 3

Olveston Utd 3

OLVESTON overturned a 3-0 deficit to share the spoils at Chipping Sodbury.

Following on from their 4-0 away win at Shaftesbury Crusade last time out, Olveston Utd were on their travels again, away to Chipping Sodbury Town Reserves.

After the opening exchanges, where both teams created a couple of shots at goal, the home side took the ascendency and took the lead on 10 minutes.

The O’s struggled to get their passing game going, and were caught on the counter attack as Sodbury made it 2-0 at the break.

After a tactical reshuffle, with Chris Barnes adopting a holding role in central midfield, the O’s began their fightback. However, on the hour they suffered a hammer blow, conceding a penalty, which Sodbury converted to make it 3-0.

However, the O’s showed great determination and character to claw their way back into the game.

With 15minutes to go, and 3-0 down, Sam Russell played a through ball to Phil Williams, whose shot at goal from the edge of the box took a heavy deflection and found the net. 3-1, game on. A few minutes later, following an Olveston counter attack, James Moore notched his third goal in as many games to make it 3-2. By this point the home side appeared nervy, and the O’s had all the momentum. Following a frenetic final few minutes where the O’s wasted a few chances, Matty Knight stood over a free-kick in added time, for one final attempt at grabbing an equaliser. He swung in a deep cross towards the back post which the Sodbury keeper completely misjudged, the ball sweeping over his head and into the top corner.
