Cirencester Town 1
AFC Totton 1

Cirencester Town drew for the second successive time at home to stretch their unbeaten run to four games against AFC Totton, writes Dave Pyzer.

Another entertaining game at The Corinium Stadium between two teams that were looking for the ‘winner’ right up to the final whistle – with glimpses of the intensity and speed of the last four home games.

The visitors showed their intent from the off as Craig Feeney tested ‘keeper Luke Merchant and within five minutes there had been corner kicks at both ends of the pitch.

Mike Pook and Ben Whitehead fired wide of the right post before neat play from Totton brought more fine saves from the young ‘keeper and an Alan Griffin effort had passed narrowly wide of the left post by the time the half entered the final 15 minutes.

In the lead-up to the interval Cirencester pressed hard but were unable to make the breakthrough and after the break the game became ‘end-to-end’ with Cirencester working the ball forward and Totton quick to counter and by the hour mark Whitehead had had a shot saved and Merchant had made a double save to deny the visitors – but two minutes later a Griffin knock down was finished from close range by Ben Whitehead.

Play continued in this fashion - attack and counter attack – and as the final 15 minutes approached a Cirencester attack down the right channel was stopped in its tracks and the ball quickly fed forward to Craig Feeney who fired home from the left channel of the Cirencester area.

Five minutes later Griffin was released into the Totton box but as the ‘keeper charged he shot over the bar.

Both sides pressed until the final whistle but honours remained even.
